Meet the Tutor 2014

Last month the ICMA Centre hosted it’s annual ‘Meet the Tutor’ event.

The event is a great opportunity for students to get to know their Tutor at an informal setting. This year, students from all programmes were invited to the ICMA Centre to meet faculty members and administrative staff over a light buffet and were offered a drink once they found their personal tutor.IMG_3804

This year’s MSc Behavioural Finance Scholarship winner Jiawei (Charlie) Zheng commented about the event: “The tutoring system at the ICMA Centre is unique. Every post-graduate student is assigned a senior member of Academic staff at the Centre as their personal Tutor, taking care of them both academically and with respect to daily life. All senior academics are involved, including the big names such as Adrian Bell, Brian Scott-Quinn and Chris Brooks. This is not a practice commonly seen in other universities.”

Jiawei also added: “having senior staff as student personal tutors is beneficial in many ways: academically they are able to provide effective and in-depth advise; the experience of tutoring students year after year enables them to quickly understand the mentality of students from different backgrounds and to provide direct guidance; additionally their connection to the industry could be a potential plus for students’ future career development.”

Jiawei’s personal Tutor is Ioannis Oikonomou, Msc Behavioral Finance Programme director; “I trust him and consulted him when I got confused about things. The feedback he gave me went way beyond my expectations. I really hope everyone could treasure this system and makes the most of it.”
